Cabinet Shop Assembler

You’ll take donated materials, manufacture cabinet parts, and assemble cabinets for the Remodeling Together program alongside others. You’ll help build cabinets for about half the cost of factory selections so that homeowners can gain major savings to tackle a do-it-yourself kitchen remodel. You’ll work from an existing pattern in an assembly line fashion, so no design skills are needed. You don’t necessarily need any woodworking skills, as staff will train you on site during your first shift and provide ongoing support as needed! You can choose the 3- or 4-hour shift that works best for your schedule on weekdays between 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Is This the Right Fit for Me?

You like working “behind the scenes” and putting some power tools to use. You’re welcome to put on some headphones and get to assembling, or you can pair up with another volunteer at a station to put pieces together as a team. You don’t have to flex any creative muscles, as it’s more of an assembly-line setup. It helps if you have a general idea of when you can come to assemble, but it’s flexible with your schedule and availability.

What Others are Saying

"My time as a volunteer has resulted in a series of 'wins' for me.  My first 'win' was the excellent orientation and hands-on training I initially received. I really felt and feel equipped to do the task and to do it well. My second 'win' was the special relationships I’ve developed over time with the friendly and dedicated staff and volunteers with whom I share my work time and work benches. The final 'win' for me has the incredible sense of satisfaction I receive from knowing that my volunteer labors are beneficial to the organization and that they are greatly appreciated. It is special to know that my part of the puzzle helps Home Repair Services equip vulnerable homeowners for success!"

What to Expect

Contact Mike to let him know you’d like to help assemble cabinetry in the Cabinet Shop. He’ll invite you to visit Home Repair Services’ office, and you’ll learn about their programs and tour the facility.  A 45-minute assembly training typically takes place on your first shift, and it’s okay if you need a refresher on how to use power tools. The cabinet shop is open for you to visit  Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., and you can let Mike know what hours work best for your half-day shift.
