Dance Class Helper

You’ll support a fun and energetic dance class for individuals with physical or mental disabilities. You’ll help students get engaged and moving and find self-expression through creative movement. Each class will have an instructor, but you’ll be the support person who helps break down instructions for students to better understand or keep an eye out for students who could use some encouragement to get involved. You’ll also help with basic tidying at the end of class and ensure a smooth flow into the next class of students. You won’t be required to do any hands-on personal care for students. You don’t need to be a dancer yourself, but you have to give it a try and have some fun alongside the students!

There are several dance classes available throughout the week at Arts in Motion. You can choose the class (or two!) that best fits your interest and availability:

Drum and Dance: Thursdays 7-7:50 p.m. (for ages 12+)
Gentle Movement: Fridays 11-11:50 a.m. (for ages 18+)

Is This the Right Fit for Me?

You’re willing to dance! You don’t need to be a dancer, but you've got to have a fun spirit that is willing to give it a try alongside the students. You’re also willing to create relationships. You can create a welcoming environment and be comfortable getting to know students. You can get a sense in a room of who is not participating or excited, and you like to find a creative way to engage them.

About Arts in Motion

Arts in Motion provides adaptive instruction in the creative arts for the physically, emotionally, or mentally challenged. They offer courses for all ages and development levels, including special day camps in the summer. To enrich the community and lives of individuals with disabilities through the creative arts, their adaptive instruction focuses on the potential for personal expression, not the rules of techniques. By using a variety of styles, music, and props, students are able to outwardly express the beauty within.

What Others are Saying

Working with the students on a one-on-one basis, as well as a full class makes every encounter I have with each student is so amazing. To watch them grow and see their passion for dancing or for music is very exciting; it makes every moment with them a moment to treasure. Each relationship I form and grow with the students makes me more excited for the next class to be able to see them again.
