Is This the Right Fit for Me?
You have an encouraging and positive spirit, and you know the importance of being flexible. You know how to communicate and teach in a way that is positive and helpful without simply taking over. You’re willing to allow a homeowner to try something and possibly make a mistake, and then encourage them about what to look out for next time. You get excited about the idea of empowering a homeowner to do other projects in their own home.
About Home Repair Services
Home Repair Services strengthens vulnerable Kent County homeowners because strong homeowners build strong communities. HRS believes that homeownership encourages personal responsibility and builds value, dignity, and pride. For qualified homeowners, HRS offers financial counseling, accessibility improvements, fix-it classes, and repair/remodel assistance.
What Others are Saying
“The highlight of this work is seeing the light go on in a homeowner's head when they realize they can fix a project they have themselves. The happiness in a homeowner when their new kitchen is installed is so rewarding. I love the challenge of fitting a kitchen into an older house. The reward outweighs the effort.”Steve

What to Expect
If you're interested, complete a Volunteer Application or contact Bruce Jordan and tell him, "I have skills you can use!" BJ will invite you to visit Home Repair Services’ office near Division and Hall, and you’ll learn about their programs through a tour and informal interview. You’ll be encouraged to take a few of the Saturday morning classes, including cabinet installation, which will help you get prepared if you won’t feel you have all the necessary know-how. HRS staff will take you to meet the homeowner prior to the project’s start.
