Kitchen Remodel Coach

You’ll work side-by-side with an eager rookie renovator on a kitchen counter or cabinet installation project. For a few days in their home, you’ll help install countertops and cabinets, sharing tips and tricks, encouragement, and your knowledge. You’ll get to know a homeowner along the way as you work together toward a kitchen transformation. Home Repair Services supplies up to 30 hours of free in-home remodeling coaching to program participants; these installs typically take place over the course of a few days.

Projects with homeowners come up every few weeks to every few months, and staff will take you to meet the homeowners prior to the project’s start. (The homeowners have taken a class on this, too, so they’re eager to put their knowledge to work!) All software designs are done by Home Repair Services; you, staff, and the homeowner will review the plans in the home. If you’re not sure you have all the know-how you need to help someone else install countertops or cabinets, you can take some of Home Repair Services’ free Saturday morning classes on the subject. Bonus: If you want to be a part of the demolition phase, you can do that too!

Is This the Right Fit for Me?

You have an encouraging and positive spirit, and you know the importance of being flexible. You know how to communicate and teach in a way that is positive and helpful without simply taking over. You’re willing to allow a homeowner to try something and possibly make a mistake, and then encourage them about what to look out for next time. You get excited about the idea of empowering a homeowner to do other projects in their own home.

What Others are Saying

“The highlight of this work is seeing the light go on in a homeowner's head when they realize they can fix a project they have themselves. The happiness in a homeowner when their new kitchen is installed is so rewarding. I love the challenge of fitting a kitchen into an older house. The reward outweighs the effort.”
